COM Plug-in for Eclipse

Using the Eclipse update manager is the recommended way to install the COM Plug-in for Eclipse. The update manager can be configured to automatically notify and download updates as soon as they arrive relieving you of the burden to check for new updates manually.

The instructions below are for installing the COM Plugin on Eclipse 3.3 (Europa). For instructions on installing using Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) click here

  1. Select "Help » Software Updates » Find and Install..." menu option
  2. The "Install/Update" wizard appears. Select "Search for new features to install" and press "Next"

  3. The "Update sites to visit" page appears. Click the "New Remote Site..."e; button.
  4. Enter the following information in to the "New Update Site" dialog that appears;
       Name: Com Plug-in for Eclipse
       URL: http://www.comeclipse.com/updates/v1

  5. Eclipse begins the update process by determining which plug-in require updating.
  6. If you have problems during the search it can be for a large variety of reasons. In this case you might like to try the pre-packaged zip file download instructions.
  7. Once the search is complete, the search results page will be displayed in the "Updates" wizard. Select the checkbox next to the "COM Plug-in for Eclipse". If you also want to include the com4j support then be sure to select the checkbox next to the "COM4J Plug-in for Eclipse" as well. You might also like to expand both features to ensure that the latest version of the Plug-ins are also checked.

  8. Click "Next" and then Read/Accept the license agreement
  9. The "Optional Features" page appears. Select the optional features that you would like to install from the list. Optional features can be added later by following this process again so don't feel compelled to install everything at once.
    1. com4j development environment
      This optional feature contains the com4j development environment and runtime. Use it to build and run COM projects using the com4j frameworks.
    2. com2java com java stub generator
      This optional feature provides a beta version of the J-Integra® com2java tool integration. You must have J-Integra® installed to use this feature. This feature will NOT work with a trial license.
    Once you have chosen the optional features you want click "Next".

  10. The "Installation" page appears. Click "Finish" to begin the download. Optional Features
  11. The download time will vary depending on the speed of your internet connection.

  12. A "Verification" dialog will appear prompting you to verify the unsigned feature. Click the "Install All" button to continue.

  13. Lastly you will be prompted to restart Eclipse. It is recommended that you click "Yes" and do the restart. The plug-in will not operate correctly if use the "Apply Changes" button.
